Overview of 2009 Summit
Sessions, designed for teachers, administrators, and specialists, will highlight best practices for benchmark, strategic and intensive interventions, content area literacy, and closing the achievement gap for English learners and special needs students. School panels will present sessions on improving school-wide literacy. The Summit will also include a Publishers’ Fair featuring the SBE-adopted English/language arts instructional materials.
Participants will have time to reflect and learn how California schools address national and state mandates for secondary student literacy. Keynote speakers, presenters, workshops, and school panels will focus on reading, academic vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and school-wide literacy. Instructional strategies for teacher use will address struggling students, English learners, and special needs students.
