The ECN Book Group: Rethinking Rubrics, by Maja Wilson

Rethinking Rubrics was not only written to generate conversation, but it was also born from several on-going conversations--with my students, my own experiences, colleagues, and, of course, my editor and dear friend Gloria Pipkin. I couldn't be more pleased to continue that conversation here, with such a dedicated and interesting group of teachers, thinkers and writers. Many thanks to Jim for making this conversation possible!

I'm suggesting the following schedule, but I'm depending on you to tell me how this pace works for you as we go.  If needed, we'll work out a better pace together.

I'll create discussion threads for each week's reading.  I imagine that as the discussion progresses, different groups will find different themes and topics of interest, and these might develop into different discussion threads.  Happy reading and writing!

Thanks, everyone! I will try to get the 1963 version from Netflix so we can watch it when we get back from Thanksgiving Break and have discussion with the students on Monday about why I I'm not going to show them the 1990 version.

Hi Mark, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm thinking of instituting a similar practice of having students write mini-arguments. Do you have any prompts or resources that I can use?

Good Morning, I'd like students to create Wikis for their independent reading books. I can't decide if I want students to have a page for a book, or a page for each student (because some students are reading the same book). Also, I can't decide wh...
